Involvement in FCCLA's Competitive events programs offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life necessary in families, communities and workplaces. Through Competitive Events, members demonstrate Family and Consumer Sciences knowledge and skills, career skills and interpersonal communication through:
Family / LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl
Sponsored by National FCCLA, the FCCLA / LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl is a three-level team competition that challenges students' knowledge of six areas:
Personal Finance
Consumer Rights & Responsibilities (to include Family, Career & Community Studies)
Technology (to include Fashion & Housing Design)
Health & Safety (to include Food Sciences & Nutrition and Early Childhood & Human Development)
Environment (to include Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation)

Sponsored by National FCCLA, Skill Demonstration Events provide opportunities for members to demonstrate college and career-ready skills in FACS and related occupations. Skills Demonstration Events compete during National Cluster Meetings. Click here for information.
STAR Events
STAR Events (Students Taking Actions with Recognition) recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and career preparation. STAR Events competition begins at the State Leadership Conference. On-line STAR Events competition begins at the national level.
