Young America Saves

Pennsylvania Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapters have the opportunity to pilot the national partnership with America Saves.  Click here for a link to America Saves.  America Saves Week is in February.

What is FCCLA Saves?- FCCLA Saves is a program of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America in cooperation with America Saves, both national non profit organizations committed to encouraging young Americans to save money, reduce debt and build wealth.

Philadelphia Saves

FCCLA chapters in southeastern Pennsylvania have the opportunity to partner with Philadelphia Saves as part of the national America Saves campaign. Philadelphia Saves is designed to encourage everyone to build wealth and assets. Locally, almost 4600 individuals have developed a savings plan and are committed to “Build Wealth, Not Debt”.

In an effort to eliminate the many barriers of saving, Philadelphia Saves, housed at Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Delaware Valley; provides financial information and access to free or reduced-fee savings products.

Philadelphia Saves believes that anyone can reach their savings goal. In order to do that one must think of new ways to reach different audiences. Primarily through basic budget building, savings techniques, as well as understanding why savings and budgeting is essential to having a healthy financial future.

To achieve these goals we provide free Wealth Building Workshops that teach savings strategies and encourage youth to recognize the many opportunities to save. After completing the workshop, participants will have an opportunity to set their own savings goal, develop a plan and gain access to all of the free resources Philadelphia Saves has to offer.

Including:

v Access to Low/No-Fee Savings Accounts

v Free One-on-One Consultations with a Wealth Coach

v Access to Certified Financial Planners

v Quarterly Newsletters with Tips/Tricks on Saving

v Access to Additional Free Financial Education.

Pennsylvania Bankers Association

Bankers, family members and educators must work together to improve financial literacy in this country.  Together we can make a difference."  This is a quote from the American Bankers Association who is in partnership with national FCCLA.  Pennsylvania Family, Career and Community Leaders in its endeavor to address important personal, family, work, and societal issues is a natural partner with Pennsylvania Bankers Association in educating young people in financial matters.

FCCLA projects developed using the FCCLA national program, Financial Fitness, would enable FCCLA members to meet Pennsylvania Family and Consumer Sciences Standard 11.1 on Resource Management.

FCCLA chapter members are experienced in Peer Education and in using the FCCLA Planning Process in developing programs.  Pennsylvania Bankers have access to financial literacy curriculum materials.  By partnering with a local PA Bankers Association member bank, FCCLA members have a positive opportunity to "Take the Lead" in the Power of One program and get involved in the "Banking Basics" module of Financial Fitness.  This module, found on the Get Connected CD includes ready to use activities and lessons.

FCCLA benefits from the partnership by promoting positive public relations in the community and school; realizing the potential for career awareness; and teaching peers an invaluable life application.  Pennsylvania Bankers benefit from the energy and enthusiasm of FCCLA members planning and teaching the content and creates positive connections and access to the school community.

Teach Children to Save is a financial literacy program that may be conducted any day of the year.   PA FCCLA chapters are encouraged to combine efforts with their local bankers in this financial literacy event.  Chapter members should also think ahead to October to plan a project focused on Get Smart About Credit Day.  These designated events will help the partnership take off, but when the local partnership is established, there will be many additional opportunities for involvement.
