Chapter Adviser Instructions for Registering STAR Events

General STAR Events Information

Participants will be able to access specific information regarding their event and orientation on the national FCCLA Website on the STAR Events Web page in May/June.

STAR Events Participant Eligibility

To be eligible to participate in national STAR Events, participants are required to register for the entire National Leadership Conference and to stay at one of the official convention hotels for the duration of the conference (Sunday-Wednesday nights). STAR Events participants attending the National Leadership Conference and not staying at one of the official convention hotels will not be permitted to compete in national STAR Events unless they reside within 30 miles of the conference location and pay the conference room fee.

Tentative STAR Events Schedule

Download the pdf file to the right to see the STAR Events schedule as of March 22, 2010.  STAR Events Participant Registration is mandatory for all STAR Events participants.  Participants will receive their participation schedules at registration.

Culinary Arts Menus

Three sample menus for the Culinary Arts event are posted on the national STAR Events Web pages.  One of the menus will be used for the competition.  The Culinary Arts Equipment list will also be posted on the national website in May.

STAR Events Demonstrations

FCCLA is once again seeking individuals and teams to demonstrate their STAR Event presentations for filming to be used as an educational and promotional resource.  All parties interested in this opportunity should register online by May 1.  A hard copy form may be requested from the state office.  An online registration will be available on the national website.  An FCCLA Consent and Release Agreement should be mailed to national no later than May 1.  Request these forms from the state office. Those selected will receive further scheduling information in May.

Early Childhood Theme: The 2010 Early Childhood STAR Event Theme for the 2010 National Leadership Conference is different than what was used in state competition.  The theme will be posted on the national Website in May.

STAR Events Focus Groups

FCCLA will be conducting focus groups for the three events introduced in 2009-2010: Environmental Ambassador, Fashion Design, and Food Innovations. Focus groups will take place on the morning of Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in one of the official conference hotels. Those wishing to be part of the focus groups should complete the online application form (link below). Focus group members will be chosen in a manner that allows for diverse opinions and experiences in order to get high quality feedback. All applicants must attend the 2010 National Leadership Conference at their own expense. Applications will close May 31, 2010 and applicants will be contacted via email in early June regarding their selection status.

STAR Events Volunteers

Chapter advisers should submit registrations for evaluators and room consultants online on the same account used to register the participants.

With the continued growth of STAR Events, increased numbers of volunteers are needed. FCCLA depends on chapter and state advisers to provide these individuals. PA FCCLA chapters are to provide one volunteer for every three STAR Events participants or increment thereof from their chapter.  Both students and adults experienced and knowledgeable  about state and national STAR Events who are good organizers and can help with the management or evaluation of these events, are great candidates for nomination. Students competing in an event are allowed to volunteer on a different day of competition. The more information provided in the nomination form regarding volunteer experience and availability, the more successfully national staff can conduct volunteer placement.

Lead & Assistant Lead Consultants

In addition to needing volunteers to manage the competition rooms and evaluate projects, FCCLA needs highly qualified volunteers to oversee entire events. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact the state office. A small stipend is available.

Volunteer Substitutes

Those who are nominated may not be selected to serve as a room consultant or evaluator if there is an excess of volunteers. If not initially selected, volunteers will automatically be placed on the substitution list and will remain there until a placement can be made. This may be anywhere from immediately following the original June mailing to an onsite placement. All submitted volunteers are expected to follow through with their placement whether it is a specific event or a substitute position onsite at NLC unless the volunteer contacts national headquarters to cancel.
